April 1-17, 2016: “The Darker Face of The Earth” by Rita Dove, directed by Rene Couret-Lewis. Set in the South before the Civil War, this classical tragedy is based on the Oedipus legend. A white woman gives birth to a black baby and agrees to give him up if his life is spared. Twenty years later, the woman, now plantation mistress, acquires a slave named Augustus. Rebellious but susceptible to his owner’s charms, Augustus becomes embroiled in an uprising just as he learns the truth about his heritage. Running the first three weekends in April 2016. (Look for the white parking stripe on the street, on 54th street) Parking is also allowed across the street at the Calvary Lutheran (Faith on 54th) Church, south side parking lot for our patrons, during all of our shows. The parking lot closest to the theater. Look for the church across the street from the theater in the middle of the block, with the tall steeple.
